The agonising wait is over at last! Here are the winners in the very first ever halfbananas awards.
There are so many amazing blogs out there, it’s hard to keep up. I hope you enjoy discovering some great new ones, and if you’ve won a coveted halfbananas award, congratulations!
The dedicated awards committee have tried to recognise the best examples in various categories, but inevitably there will be lots of other fabulous blogs that missed out this time around. But never fear, there will be more awards, accolades and virtual pats-on-backs coming soon. Let’s spread the love people!
I look forward to seeing all the lucky winners and honourable mentions, at the lavish Hollywood party I will be hosting, assuming awards condition #3 is met (see below).

The lifetime achievement award
How could I not recognise my dear Mum, Joy, for her many great achievements? She had me for starters… Still a busy bee at 84, she writes and publishes factual, fiction and poetry, edits other writer’s works and runs a writing group, among other things. She lives life to the max and has always been a great source of support, inspiration and advice, especially in my ninja assassin training.
A reminder of the award conditions
If you are nominated for a halfbananas award, you should complete one (or more) of the following conditions/tasks:
1. Thank me for the award by making a sizeable donation to my retirement fund.
2. Embark on a quest to locate the lost city of Atlantis and bring me the fabled golden chalice of eternal youth.
3. Invent a time machine and get me the Euro-lottery results for next Friday.
4. Display the award proudly on your blog.
5. All of the above.
6. None of the above.
If you’d like to display the award on your blog, please right click the award graphic at the top of the page and ‘save image as..’ to your computer. I can also supply it in other sizes or formats. This might in future include a T-Shirt, babygro, coffee mug, or a 50 foot banner or billboard for erecting outside your home, depending on demand.
Warm wishes and many congrats to all the talented bloggers out there.

Ah, you are a gem – Thank you for my fruitilicious award! I may have to decline acceptance however as I’m not sure I have a spare minute to work on the time machine this week 😉 I can make a hefty donation of DVDs to your retirement though. I was only going to offload them at a carboot, so it saves me getting up early!

You’re very welcome! Remember you only have to fulfill one condition Haylee, and it can of course be #6 if you choose. The DVDs is a kind offer, but I seem to have rather too many of those already.

You like me! You really like me! (Insert Sally Field gushing cry face here) Sincerely, thank you for those kind words. And yes, in the future I will totally take the 50 foot banner to erect outside my abode. I’m witty and wonderful. Also so humble…

You’re very welcome! I better get busy with those banners..

Thanks for the shout out Jason, even if I now must depart for Atlantis and come up with some pithy commentary on the trip. Or at least pithy commentary about something…

I’M FAMOUS. Seriously though, thanks for the mention, and also all the other recommendations. Turns out these people are all great.
I did my best on that Golden Chalice of Eternal Youth, by the way. I had every intention of hunting down Atlantis myself, but some stuff came up (you know how it goes) and I couldn’t find the time. Instead, I hired a group of guys down by the docks and they set off after surprisingly few negotiations. When they eventually came back they told me that they had indeed found Atlantis, but that it “wasn’t as nice as [they] expected.” Still, they had the chalice, and so I gladly paid them for their troubles.
Unfortunately, upon further inspection I realized that they had snagged the wrong chalice. This one is the Chalice of Internal Youth, you see, so they differ slightly in function. I regret the error, but I can still pass the chalice onto you should you desire a more spry and somewhat smaller spleen.

You’re most welcome Boone. The whole point of this was to raise the profile of all the great bloggers out there, in my own humble way.
I really appreciate the amazing efforts you put in with finding Atlantis and securing the Golden Chalice. I hope you are not too out of pocket for your troubles. It’s kind of you to offer the alternate chalice, although I already have one of those I bought off some Nigerian prince for a very reasonable price. It seems to be working well, as my spleen has never looked so youthful, according to the health scanner the guy threw in to sweeten the deal. I know a bargain when I see one..

Yay! I’m delighted with my win, Jason. Thanks very much to the judges. (Please tell them the money will be in the brown paper bag behind the bus shelter as promised.) Now I’m just hoping I can win again next year and get a whole banana.

The judges are grateful for the cash Bun and assure me that you are a definite front-runner for next year’s prize. But purely based on talent of course..

Thanks for that. As I say, I’ll be sure to send another couple of bagfuls of talent the judges’ way next year too.

Grateful though I am for my honourable mention, and I can’t argue with the winner of the humour category – indeed I’m now following all of the humour blogs on your recommendation and they’re all better than mine. I am, however, going to need to actually win an award in order to for my ego to be truly satisfied. I don’t care what category – it doesn’t have to relate to my actual blog in any way. It could be ‘The award for a blogger who doesn’t really deserve an award but really really wants one’. I’d take that honour quite happily.

Glad you found some of the great blogs worth a follow James. Hopefully they’ll return the favour. I think the halfbananas awards may yet surprise you as, unlike the Oscars, the judges are not bound by the normal rules of mere mortals and do as they please..

I look forward to the next round of awards with genuine anticipation then.

Oh, Jas, I’m in tears…In such illustrious company too…I shall check them all out. Better than a real OSCAR award any day. I only wish I had your talent (that’s true and from the heart). If your blogger pals only knew what else you can do…(we won”t discuss the Ninja assassin training sessions here, otherwise the ‘authorities’ may be after me for child cruelty! Your ever lovin’ Ma. xxx
